L200/L128's?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No, the first is an L200 based on the belly color. Get a picture without flash that will help.

The second looks a little larger at maybe 4.5" TL, and 3-3.25" SL. THey are FAR from full grown. My largest L200 is 7" SL, and 10.5" TL. Neither look large enough to accurately sex. Check out my L200 breeding thread.

L200 get to 12" i've been reliably informed, (about 28cm to be a bit more exact). however that differs between the 2 L200s, the first described L200 is a lot smaller in adulthood (closer to 15cm).
biggest L128 i've seen is around 10".
L128s can also have that yellow belly colouration, as shown in many examples.

on sex at that age you can try checking the papilla, or hazard a preliminary guess with the odontode growth

I have never seen, nor heard of an L200 that was 12" SL. I have contacted one breeder now, and he has had L200 b. demantoides for over 6 years, and at about 7" SL they stopped growing. The extreme south L128 can have a teal, to near green, but they are still not quite yellow. The far north L200s can have a deep green, to nearly teal under side, but I have yet to see an L128 with a yellow underside.

For papilla on L200 I'd say around 5" SL, and for the L128 according to a friend that is trying to breed them, around 5" also. However, the L128 also only obtains a size of 7" SL, in every finding that I have seen, and from two attempting breeders.

For the odontode, I'd say as early as 5" as well, but still not as good as the papilla.

i shall find some pictures to show you then.
your friend with the b. demantoides at 7" is 3cm off recorded max size, and as you know size with plecos can be dependant to gender, the fact it might be reared in a tank and not wildcaught like this persons (he is an importer) may also make a difference, so that fits.

However the second 'L200' described has been imported at almost 12", i think there is an importer that had a few in on planetcatfish and there were some pics to go with it. They were absolutely huge. There was another importer that got them in at 28cm. I found them after seeing your large ones wyldfya, as i wondered how big they actually got, as i wasnt aware of them getting quite so big.

didnt realise anyone had bred b. demantoides your side of the pond, i know there are a handul over in the EU, mostly germany and UK from what ive found. some guy in the UK has bred L128s too i know

Yeah, I was talking to a guy out in olympia, only to find out that he accidentally bred his, however he has annual spawns of nearly 50 fry.

I'll see what I can find on the L200s, I haven't really ever used Planetcatfish, as I find a lot of their stuff to be off the radar.

yea, i just went into their forums section if that helps. takes a lot out of you using the search, but if you hit the right key words, there is a lot of info in there.
