L264 die. Why?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Pictures not working. It's always easier to tell if you have a picture before it's dead.

If you've just recently got the fish, it's most likely it was on it's way out in the shop. That, plus stress from the trip to your house, new enviroment, parasites/bacteria infections is what kills most new fish. If fish was bloated before it died, it's most likely bloat/dropsy, bacteria infection that is usually fatal by the time you noticed the bloat. What are your water parameters? Do you test your water?

This is before:

I bought it from privet and not from a store. The way to my house was 25 min'.
Yes I check my water parameter every 2 weeks.
Now I have nitrate 20 (maybe because the fish was dead in there all day?)

Now you can see the photos?

Yes, can see picture now.

Looks like it's bloat/dropsy/popeye. Most likely causes are bacterial infection. Most of the time, this happens with bad water quality, since your water quality is good, the infection most likely happened before it arrived at your tank. The stress of the new environment just did him in. What other fish was in the tank? If they are not especially fragile, add salt and raise temp of the tank for couple weeks as a preventative measure to protect them just in case.

Sorry for your loss.

Bloat forsure, I've had this happen to my plecos, what you need to do is do a big waterhange, take out any activated carbon ammonia remover ect..., turn hear up to 80/82, treat with prazipro. Good luck man, I hope none of your other fish die from it, as I lost 7 fish from it.

What temperature are you running now? If you are already 78~79 or above, slowly raise the temperature to 86~88. Let's say over couple days, add at least 1 table spoon per 5 gallon of water. Don't know what types of salt are available there, the "solar salt" sold in home depot is perfect, just plain salt with no iodine or anything added, cheap too.

Hi,
The water temperature is 32c (89 f).
The tank is 550 liters, so I need to add about 27-30 table spoons?

This is the salt I use:
