Well I found an L264 at my local LFS, anybody on this forum have experience with this pleco? Looking for any type of personal information on keeping this pleco, also pics if you have them would be nice. This pleco is small 2" which a size I try to stay away from however he has been there a week now. Any 264 keepers out there, at barely 2" what do you think his survivability rate will be? Slow growers? Aggressive?

Will survive if there is nothing currently wrong with it and you make sure it gets enough feed and isn't bullied by others. Never kept sultans though, a lot of people on here have/ still have them. A friend who used to keep young 'uns fed his brine shrimp which i know they loved, but obviously they need veggies too for the main bulk of diet.

i had one before i sold my small plecs. it was a very easy going pleco at 2". it grew quite good and ate everything i threw in. at this size he wont be too agressive but that might come when he gets bigger. dont see why he would not survive...

Thanks for the input, mainly the 2" size; I had a bad experience with a series of Gold nuggets that at that size when purchased died within the first or second week ( one died on the way home never made it out of the bag). All where eating well, tank parameters where good. Those mysterious I have no answer for deaths that have puzzled me in the past , that I'm trying hard not to repeat. I'll need to move some L200's around and then bring this little guy home, thanks for all our your inputs.

I saw that little guy at was tempted too! How is everything else going, any other new pickups?

I MIGHT have some Uaru a. for sale in a week or two if your interested.

I have had numerous L264, and they are a great pleco. Expect aggression after around 3". Also the white on the tips of the fins is likely to disappear by the time they are fully grown. They are very aggressive, and will assert dominance over much larger plec. these guys will eat veggies, but prefer meat. They do graze on algae, but not much.

I concur. At small sizes they are very durable, especially compared to gold nuggets. Mine barely touch veggies and prefer bloodworms, daphnia, frozen shrimp and worms. PC lists most Leporacanthicus spp. as omnivorous but needing vegetable matter. I have not found this to be the desired feeding pattern of just about any of them.

If you bought it, quarantine it for at least 2 weeks alone so you can bulk it up and transition it to easier-to-feed foods. Buy it, you'll like it!

I'm reviving an old thread for any additional info or experiences.

I am looking to add a pleco to help keep the algae on my driftwood in check. Would an L264 work for this?
