It's a Xingu not Goldline. If it has any red rusty color in the fins at all IT'S A XINGU. Here are pics to compare:

4" XINGU:

3" GOLDLINE:

Xingu has a light beige base with dark black lines, Dorsal and pectoral fin has red rusty color, caudal fin has less clear more black. (Base color stays light while black lines become more distinct and Red rusty color on fins goes away as it matures.

Goldline has a golder base, More distinct black pattern in dorsal and pectoral fins, clearer caudal fin with less black. (Gold base and lines become more distinct as it matures)

I hope this clears it up and if it doesn't than you're in denial!

If it doesn't have a yellow/ gold base then it's not thunderline

No, fish from the Xingu, Tapajos and Araguaia can all show a yellow/gold base colour. It can also depend on circumstances and environment.

If it has any red rusty color in the fins at all IT'S A XINGU.

Xingu - caudal fin has less clear more black.

Goldline - clearer caudal fin with less black.

I agree with the bulk but these bits are wrong. The rusty/red colour seen in juvenile Xingu's is not a definitive characteristic, it's also seen in other juvenile Panaque. The size of the transparent hyaline window in the caudal fin is an indicator of age/size rather than variety/species, because it gradually 'closes' and the caudal fine becomes black in colour.

It would also be helpful to clarify the common names of these fish. 'Goldline' is used for fish from the Araguaia, and 'Thunder' is used for fish from the Tapajos, but they are often combined which doesn't help.

These crappy pictures are of a beauty that was sold to me as a L27c. I'm guessing it's a Gold Line Thunder Lightning. Unfortunately I sold it a couple of years ago, and have been kicking myself ever since.

The only good news is it went to a very good home of a panaque master, aka Jackson.
