Got an infusoria culture going then thought are they that small when they hatch?should I wait till I see fry to start feeding?Any tips/suggestions welcome
AAAGH the waiting is killing me,she looks so emaciated never bred any mouthbrooders before, its just so hard to watch a fish waste away like that.she has to spit them any day now.
She should spit on the 19th-21st day. Any longer than that and I would recommend you strip her especially if she's starting to look too skinny.
When I bought my first pair of Labeo. fuelleborni my female was holding after 3 days in my tank. They were already skinny when I bought them having been fed improperly at the shop and 3 days was not nearly enough time to put weight on her before she held. As a result she held to term but was unable to regain her strength after going without food for so long. I would have stripped her had I not been so afraid to.
Sunken bellies are ok and normal. Once the eyes begin to look sunken and they develop "razor back" where the head and dorsal profile looks razor thin then I'd suggest stripping her.
She finally spit today !! about 15 amazingly large fry!!
That was rough waiting that long I may try stripping next time but how do you do that with a 3" fish?I wouldnt want to hurt it,seems so tiny to be handling like that
