Labeotropheus trewavasae "mpanga red"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I want to try an African Tank for the learning experience, but space is limited.

I have kept them but I bought them at a very young age and as they matured I mad up my mind that I didnt like their mouth structure.Looks like they got punched in the mouth. This is because they feed in shallow waters and a downward pointing mouth allows them to eat while swimming swimming parallel to the substrate.

Very peaceful though I wouldnt mix it with overly aggressive Mbuna.

I have a male in my mbuna tank. I think you will be hard-pressed to find a male that is that red though. I think that picture has been photoshopped. I have seen a fair number of these fish and never seen one that bright red. Mine is more of a brick red color. There are a lot out there that have a lot more blue in them as well.

If you get tired of it let me know....... I found a trio in IL (60.00) and the lady said that they get red like that during spawning.

I had two extra males I let go for $4 each last summer. $60 seems like an awful lot for a trio of mbuna. I think mine would probably brighten a bit if I had some females with him.
