Yea those. What I feel is making it difficult is we are comparing small wolves and larger ones of the species, and doesn't the jaw change kind of like separate a little? Cause my malas never touched when larger. But the one I have now at 5 inches does.

It's a bit difficult to tell with large and small fish. Because the growth will effect. Either you can be an expert like Felipe who can see it and know. Or can do more than that and look at pores, scale count and tail.

Pores and a scale count will get u closer to what it could be than just jaw folds.

The bigger culprits are like intermedius and brasi that have jaw shapes in between u and v folds. They are rare and not often available.

It'd take many many fish to see and years of it to become an expert like that. And they're just now becoming a bit more available so hopefully we can find more out about them.

If you look closely both of those fish have 5 pores which means they are Australis

The first pic I can see 4. Not sure about 5 for the first. The others I think just not seeing them complete or direct as these photos were to show difference in folds.

+1 I can't see any more than 4 pores. That first is def a mala imo. Felipe stated they australis jaw folds never get as close as malas.

i agree ..... in the small fish it is difficult to determine V or U shape. But i think if there is some space in lower jaw, i will tell u it a U shape. From above photo, the first pic is V shape. And the last 2 pics are U shape. I will show my wolf. It is H. curupira. It clear that H curupira had U shape of ventral jaw. But the both legs of "U" are not parallel like "U" letter. They will be closed but not touch at the tip of jaw.
