ladybugs as food?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I wouldn't do it because lady bugs (more appropriately called lady beetles by entomologists) excrete some kind of nasty substace from their legs as a defense to predators. It smells awful! If you don't believe me, play around with one enough to agitate it and you should smell it without even putting it all the way up to your nose. I have tons of lady beetles where I live. I don't know if the smelly substance emitted is toxic or not but why take chances with your aro?

Aros love bugs. My aros doesn't want feeder glodfish, but he loves crickets.

It's a good job really that your aro is turning down the feeder goldfish! NOT a good idea goldfish they carry disease because they are kept in over crowded poor conditions plus the thrive in copper loaded water which isn't all that good for tropical fish.

If you did want to feed live fish to your Aro i'd recomend you use fish from tropical waters like Tetras, platies, mollies, guppys, swordtails, scissor tails all these fish would be fine for feeding as feeders.

So in that case, you shouldnt feed your aro crickets. We have live crickets at Petco, and let me tell you. They are dirty and gross little suckers. We have soooooooooooo many die. The live ones then start eating the dead ones. We have to clean out the tanks every day because they are so dirty, gross and disgusting. Stay away from crickets guy.

Benfica...that is the most retarded thing I have ever heard. Crickets don't carry ich, fin rot, dropsy, anchor worms or any of the other parasites and disease fish can get. Wild one are risky due to chemicals like pesticides but the ones in the LFS don't have that one them.

When I first got my oscar it was when I was at college and the place was overrun with ladybugs. My fish ate a lot of ladybigs with no ill effect and as long as i have been killing the things I have yet to see (or smell) any kind of dnagerious secretion.
