If the stats are the same and it will work for your application, the use it

Tank Setup - 135gal, fx5, mag350, korilla 4, 3 silver dollars, 3 Red blood parrots, 12" Green severum, 10 coreys (3 emerald & 7 swarts), 2 black spotted eels, 22" fire eel, 24" clown knife, sun catfish, and leopard plaeco

Then I would use it

I already PMed you, but figured I would also take it public.

I am 99% sure it's the same exact motor...they just come with different fittings/attachments. If you want to be 100% sure though, I would contact Hagen/Laguna directly.

There doesn't seem to be too many MFKers using these pumps, but I think once word gets out, no one will be buying the old Mag drive's. The numbers speak for themselves. They pump more GPH per watt than almost any other pump and they do it quietly. They are also less expensive than other pumps that have similar GPH ratings.

I learned about them on reefcentral (lots of saltwater guys over there using these pumps). If you are looking for first hand accounts on how quiet they are, you can search on that site and find quite a few happy customers. Apparently the Laguna's use the same motor block as some of the higher end (very expensive) saltwater pumps. In any case, if anyone is in the market for a pump, Lagunas are definitely worth a look.

A lot of keepers down here use laguna, we love them, they seem to be the best pumps out and are extremely quite for the water they can move plus the $ to run them compared to most other pumps is amazing, I am yet to get mine as I get a discount if I get them all at once but my pumps right now are using 360Watts when I go to Laguna I am going to be sitting on 180W so well worth it.

And yes they are the same pump they only build one other pump that I know of ( Statuary ).

Thanks Aldiaz and Squirtle,

I am returning my Mags and have already ordered 2 Laguna 2000s

I am a huge fan of using the cheap pumps. I do wonder about over life of the pumps and also the fact that other pumps can be rebuilt. I just got a used reeflo with a tank I got and will be interested to see how it will last and such. I know it has about 4 years on it now so time will tell. If I had money to throw around I would buy a pump from each company and test them all. I wonder if I called they if they would each send me one? Would be interesting to run a bunch of tests on a bunch of pumps. having less Watts being used is great but also some of that translates to heating the tank so you might need less usage on your heaters. So many things to account for. Understand waiting for Aldiaz to say his pump went out and figure out how long it lasted even though he didn't have very good luck with the expensive pumps so we will see.

Well my lfs claims his has been going for 6 years without missing a beat or losing any flow, I have 2 cheap pumps going right now that have been going for 5 years (2nd hands) and they are still running great. I dont think pumps degrade fast when you look at decent models, only pump I have had fail was a 25$ one.
