Hey, my buddy and I went to lake fork last weekend and smoked the gar! It was the most unorthidoxed fishing trip in a while but we had a blast. The first day we spent live bait and lure fishing for largemouth and caught a couple, a 4.5 and a 3.5lb but most of the fish we saw were to busy spawning to bite although several fish seen were between 20-22" so they were nice sized bass. Towards the end of the first day we got a little bored and the bite had slowed down so we thought about it and decided to try to land a few gar just fresh outta the water in the net. It worked really really well 
So the next day we fished for bass for a little bit but easily became bored and dedicated the rest of the day to using the landing net for gar, carp, and almost a nice bowfin but I lost sight of him in the reeds. The biggest gar caught was 11lbs and the biggest carp was 12lbs, enjoy ~Trent
