Lake Nyasa or Lake Malawi?

Funny thing, history has taught me that the redundant names are the best names. We often keep the local name for items as their official name. From all that I can research we have found that it dates back to what wikipedia says. So for once Wikipedia is correct. LOL

Examples: Bysra in Carthage means hill. So what do you call fort on the hill Bysra.

In fact Malawi is a name given to describe the people who first inhabitated the area that made up the colony of Britain. So most likely the term for the Lake Malawi is applied because Malawi claims most of the lake. So the ultimate show of ownership is name the lake after yourself. I highly doubt it was to end the redundanticy of the term.

It is more tied to the push to remove all proof of European imperialism on Africa. Just a look from a Social Studies teacher eyes on the matters.
