they are closed here, but i am not actually fishing for them. i am going for suckers and i catch them. the season for them is only in the area i am going in, but in september, and only for a week with a pre bought tag. you can keep one per year and they have to be 60" to keep. i am just using a #4 octopus hook with 1/2-1/4 crawler on it. i am just right in the spring migration path and i am fishing the edge of the main channel.
went out yesterday from a boat, didn't want to hook up to a monster and lose it again. did really well, overall slow but the sturgeon had a feed bag on.
totals from yesterday,
me- 3 with total daily sturgeon inch count of 79"! the fish broke down as a 42", 26" and a 21".
my dad- 3 with a total daily sturgeon inch count of 77.5"! the fish broke down as a 31.5", 31", 15".
so that gave us a combined total inch count of 156.5" of lake sturgeon yesterday! like always here are the pics!
got out and have 3 more for the board. i lost 2 sturgeons that the hook pulled on. we also caught shorthead redhorse, grater redhorse, white sucker, perch, white bass, walleye, northern pike, and mooneye.
