Lamprey! Least brook lamprey in my aquarium

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wow! Amazing! You’re definitely one of the first to ever keep these (or at least document it).
Shame they don’t live very long in the adult stage.
How big are they? Based on the shot of one next to your thumb and one next to hornwort, no bigger than a few inches I suppose.

yep they’re only about 4-6inches most of the parasitic species I believe get bigger.

I would have expected a fish like this to live 10-30 years. Shame it's only 2 weeks, hope you enjoy those 2 weeks though.

Wow, I'm not putting my hands in that tank

Fascinating. Aren’t the parasitic ones saltwater? Are there freshwater parasitic lamprey?

There are in my state alone there’s actually 8 species 5 non parasitic and 3 parasitic types. These are the most common species though. It sounds like the parasitic ones will be hard to find especially if it’s not during their spawning so I’ll be able to keep them for awhile.
