Lap saying hello

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Fire eel actually has no issues with the bichirs. My 2 bigger bichirs are actually a little subdued in their behavior. I have seen them eat a rosy barb or 2, but mostly the lap is the culprit there. The ornate has been in the tank since she was about 4-5 inches so she grew up with the other fish and seemingly pays them little mind. The lap does hide in the large plant seemingly to wait in ambush. The ornate does nip at the lap when he gets too close or she wants him to vacate the premises, I even saw her bite full on on his face though he didn't seem to be hurt by it... just swam away in annoyance.

Also update, moving the fish into the new 125 has been a slow process. I moved a Bala shark over but was not prepared for his high speed leeds from a shallow bucket. He jumped 3 times (once from my hand onto the floor to thud on the aquarium light). He lasted almost a week but eventually he over stressed himself and was swimming around upside down. I committed him to the porcelain waterways. I had also put the 3 Rafael in the new tank, but I think because they didn't have their rock hideout, they got a little stressed and an ich infection resulted. Currently I have the tank at 86 degrees and the infection is going away. My goal was to start with the cheaper hardier fishes to slowly increase the bio load on the new filter. The tank had cycled, but this part seems to be the hardest. When I started with my 55, I did lose a lot of fish... I am hesitant to move the bichirs and most of all the fire eel and ghost knife, I know they are the most delicate fish in my aquarium.

Why not move the filters that are in the 55 to the 125. Instant cycle

+1 I wouldn't say instant, but almost lol, since it's a bigger tank more bacteria is needed but it will definitely speed the process when I started my smaller grow out tank I used some water from my bigger tank to help as well

The bacteria colony needed would be the same size assuming the same fish from the 55 are going in the new tank. The colony would grow/shrink according to the waste output. Even better would be to use the media from the old filters in the new fitlers (assuming they are larger with more bio)

Yes I understand completely, but the barbs and smaller fish were going to be staying in the 55. My plan was to turn the 55 into nano fish and put my Zillas in the 125. After 3 days at 86 degrees, the ich spots are completely gone off the fish. I will keep it at 86 until New Years to ensure I have eradicated this pest.
