Laptop questions

$600 (aus) is £373. You have a new and top range processor for laptops but I think you got an average deal, nothing special. You got a high end laptop processor but they stiffed you on RAM, HDD and screen size. For around that price you should have been looking at getting at least 3GB RAM and a 17" screen.
Of course I am going off of the premise that Aussies are not being robbed more than us Brits when it comes to certain goods and services.

I got my wife a Dell laptop for her birthday last year and while not having an i3 processor and costing about £370 she got 4GB RAM and a 500GB HDD with a 17" screen. Case and wireless mouse were included in the package. It was a pretty good deal at the time, even after looking on the net.

So I think they tried to make it look like you got a great deal by throwing "free" stuff in. I think you could have aimed for higher spec if you had made a proper fuss but RAM and HDD are easily upgraded, even in laptops.

I think the price is decent - I3 is pretty good but i much prefer the Icore 7 though

Depends what you're going to use it for.

I just got a 17" ACER
its got 4gb ddr3 ram
640gb hard drive

but I gotta wait till the 25th to play with it

IMO, yes you got ripped off pretty badly. There are much better laptops out there for under $500. I was looking at a laptop a while back that had a (I think) 17" screen, an Intel i3 processor, and 500gb hard drive for about $450, but I decided I didn't really need it since I already have a desktop.

i seriously think the issue is the price of things in AUSTRALIA.. i think he probably got a fair price with all the extras that he got. maybe not the best "deal", but a good price just the same.

because they have higher taxes and a very different social structure their prices are higher. have you not noticed the huge prices they pay for fish that we get for $10 - $50? the same goes with almost everything. EVERYTHING is more expensive there..

the good thing about Australia is that there is an endless amount of space.. you can get lost for years and never see another human being if that's what you want to do. ;)

As far as I know, fish prices there are higher due to availability more than anything else.

nothing against you man but acer isnt quite on par with computer performance 3 people in my direct family have own acers and in that time all 3 have had to replace them in half a year of use be it mouse pad stops working or the harddrives crash and wont work plenty of problems, i however put out the extra money bought myself a hp and ive been the proud owner of it for 4 years strong, nothing has been replaced still runs like a charm and its been droped twice and ive spilt water on it a few times:P

id like to point out that the i3 line of processors by intel spans a range from terrible low powered to fairly decent.

http://www.intel.com/consumer/products/processors/compare-processors.htm?select=laptop

also, part of i3 and i5 processors run your graphics for you...unlike in the past where the graphics processor was a chip on the motherboard.

Having an i3 is like having an okay dedicated card, however with out knowing what your bios is limited to, and with out knowing what cpu it actually is I cant really say anything more.

2GB of ram is sorta low, but vista would run alright on it...and windows 7 requires less ram to run so it should be okay

HP loads there computers with 3rd party software thats embeds into the boot order and robs power on a desktop, and battery life on a laptop.

Acer uses the same hardware as every other company.
