i had a question for you mfk members. i was watching the travel channel a few months ago, not sure what show, but somebody was diving in some lake around ecuador or something, and i seen a really nice large bright blue cichlid that had scales similar to that of a GT and it had a very nice hump, but it was all blue. does anyone know what kind of fish this could have been? or possibly any large cichlid that resemble this? thanks.

Maybe a Bifa?

Only large, blue cichlid with a hump that lives close to Ecuador (Colombia, Panama) is the Umbee (Caquetaia Umbrifera). Vieja/Paratheraps species are from Central America.

Can't think of anything else...

Did it look like this? lol

it looked very similar to an umbee, but it was solid blue. i wish i could give a better description, but it only showed clips of different fish for about a second or so.

Only other large cichlid with a hump that live close to Ecuador are Festae, but they are Red.

Maybe you're confused about the location and what you saw was one of the Blue Vieja species from Central America... like Zonatus
