If you are trying to avoid lots of maintenance, two oscars and a common pleco is a really bad idea.

Agreed, that combination is looking at, probably, two decent WC a week, at least? Pleco's are poop machines, as are little babies, I think that it would be an interesting competition, pleco wins that, at least if you consider amount to body size, but babies win the stink factor..... back to my original thought, the pleco is probably going to cause more work for you, as opposed to making your life easier.

I'm thinking that just a few nicer sized goldfish might be the best bet, Get a few variants with some colors and longer tails and such, awfully bright and flashy, and I'm pretty sure they don't quite match the oscar/pleco combo in bioload. However, i've never kept bigger goldfish, so this is speculation, but i do have oscars and a common pleco so I know they're a lot of work and bioload...

I would honestly go with severums than oscars. They come in a few colors (yellow, green turqouis, red shoulder, ect ect), they get decent sized but not like an oscar, they aren't as aggressive as oscars, they aren't as messy as oscars, and IMO are pretty personable cichlids. This way you could put some ground guys or schooling guys and won't have the extreme bio load of 2 oscars and a plec and thus less maintanance.

I LOVE this forum! I love being able to get numerous opinions and options to sift through!!

And while I still love the oscar idea...that is a good point that they're too aggressive and messy. Maintenance will be difficult to keep up with, especially throwing one of those poop-machines into the mix (the pleco, not the baby lol)

Severums are beautiful, big, brightly colored, aren't going to try too hard to devour me through the glass (giant gouramis do that...:screwy:) and with just a few, they'll be easier for me to keep.

Not to sound biased though, I really don't like the convict personality, they annoy the daylights out of me...

Thanks a million times over on all of the suggestions...and Pictus would be awesome for that tank...I wonder how many would fit.... lol...

I think I'll end up going with the severums though. If not them...I'll seriously consider discus. Those have a million colors!

What size tank are you planning on?

I stated in the first post, and in the title line, a standard 75 gallon aquarium. Nothing too big or fancy. Just enough for a few bright fish and call it complete. ^_^

6 Fancy Goldfish.
Oranda, Ranchu, Ryukin, Lionhead, Celestial Eye, Black Moor.

Lots of colour, easy care, plenty of movement. You cannot go wrong.
