In my 120 gallon tank, I've got a severum, five silver dollars (argentus, can be relocated) and a common pleco (rescue). I was curious as to if I could have one of the following cichlids as a tankmate "feature". Ordered by preference, starting from bottom and going up.

Midas
Red Devil
Oscar
Texas
Jaguar
Cuban

If none of them work, just give some suggestions for things that would.

Thanks,
L021. :)

oscar should work. Tex might well work.

Others prob won't work long term. Your sev will get murdered.

Another option is a chocolate cichlid.

Oh, and to clarify, my filtration is an aqueon 55 and aquaclear 110, will be getting a fluval canister in February to accommodate growth.

i agree with above, other options include chocolate, true parrot, or some type of acara

I don't mean to sound like the people that don't listen to advice and do what they wanted all along, but is there any way I can have a cuban cichlid in with the severum?

I would say absolutly not. However each fish has it's own personality but generally Cuban cichlids are pretty rough.

Worth a shot, if you are on good terms with your LFS and it doesn't work, just return the Cuban, all of us forget this option, but don't pound your face against a wall trying to get something to work that just won't. I've never personally owned a Cuban myself, but like all other cichlids you may get lucky and find a more passive individual, but use extreme caution doing this, they are a fairly aggressive species I know.

I have a very similar stock. A 120g 60x18 footprint with two large Cascade 1500 canisters.

My stock is as follows:

1 9" Midas
1 2" Jack Dempsey
4 5" Red Hook Silver Dollars
1 4" Regular Silver Dollar
1 8" Marble Sailfin Pleco (smaller type 12" max.)

The fish were all raise together since young except the JD who is about 2 weeks in the tank now.

In my stock set up the Midas is King and everyone knows it. He is pretty mild/passive as far as his type of fish, 95% he is easy going and nobody bothers him. The other 5% of the time is spent hunting down and chasing the red hooks with a death wish. This behavior has been increasing as he gets larger. The recent addition of the JD was a pure experiment. The Midas never even looks at the small JD at all.

All I can say is it will depend on your fish but a Midas/Red Devil may not be a good choice as I'm starting to realize. But then again I am soon setting up a 210g - maybe he will mellow a bit...

If it's that kind of risk I'll skip it, I think I'll go with an Oscar. About introduction, should I get a rescue, or would the aggression pose a risk to the tank?
