My pearsei works great with bichirs. It is peaceful and wont touch their tilapia. But they need a big tank since they are large bodied fish. I also keep a het and red bay snook.

I think you could do pretty much any appropriately-sized cichlid if all your going to keep it with is Bichirs. I've kept polys with very aggressive cichlids before, my cichlids never seem to know what to think of the poly's and leave them alone. The poly's are armored anyway, I doubt most cichlids other than perhaps umbee/dovii etc. could do them much harm. I had an ornate around 18-20" in a 125 aggressive community with a huge hogaboomorum, large vieja, tetracanthus, istlanum, etc. for a long time. Nobody gave him a second look, he cruised around happily. Good luck
