Large fish for a 55g?

No on the Oscar, maybe on the puffer, could go slightly brackish have some small puffers such as figure eight, also green spotted which get a bit bigger. For the Knife fish, you could do an African brown Knife, and then you could also make it an african biotope, have a Senegal or a Delhizi Polypterus, and then a Synodontis Cat, such as Syno eupterus or 3-4 Syndontis nigriventris. This way you get the knife fish, an "eel" like fish, and a scaleless catfish with big whiskers that can be housed permanetly in a 55.

Now what about eels and the kind? I'm sure there's some. I'm looking for something pretty large but would be comfortable in a 55g. I'd love a 1foot long fish.I'm not sure if I could.

Senegal and Delhizi bichirs can both get 12" easily, and the delhizi will easily get 14" and some even more, and will do moderately fine in a 55g for life, maybe go to a 75 when they do get 12"+. They arn't eels, but they have the look of them. If you want a true eel, you could try a smaller spiny eel, peacock eel, or tire track eel.

I like all of them. I just wanna know ALL of options of fish. hahaha. I'd like to keep a lungfish but i'd need a larger tank for that.

Also like snakeheads and bowfins.

+1 on the senegal bicher! just got a pair couple weeks ago n im loving them! Also snakeheads are illegal to posses and here in indiana bowfins are an invasive species too. thts something to look n2!

I'm talking about picking ONE and sticking only ONE fish/inhabitant ina 55g in total.

Buy yourself a Flowerhorn cichlid..............These fish have been bred to comfortably fit in small tanks, but still grow almost to their full potential.............A Flowerhorn will keep you in aw all day, all night...........The responsiveness of these hybrids is incredible.........Try looking into getting a male with "kok" quality...........Kok is the term used for the forehead growth..........You want a male who shows nuchal hump potential...............

You can try the erythrinus species of wolf fish. They would be completely fine in a 55g for life, but the one per tank rule most definitely applies; as they do not tolerate conspecifics.
