ok, so im finally tired of running several 200 and 300w heaters on my 250. i however cant seem to find any heaters that are higher than 300w :(

anyone know any places that sell heaters that go into maybe 500w or even higher?

Look at pond heaters.

I know a few who use pond heaters on large tanks. However it is safer to have several mid-size heaters as, if the thermostat control ever gives out on a single large heater you could cook all your fish. Where as if it fails on a mid-size heater you're only out a heater.

They have 1Kw heaters to 6Kw

There are several other options available for pond heaters, I have seen some in the 500w range.

Definitely safer to use multiple small heaters than 1 large one!!! Heaters are cheap compared to losing a tank full of fish!!

I just googled: aquarium heater 500 watt

I found a couple options through this including a 400 W Hydor. Hydor has a pretty good reputation. There is also a Titanium 500 W you'll find with this google search... I've come across a 1000W Titanium while searchign around in the past. I didn't click many of the links just now so I'm not sure if it'll be on the list. But they are out there...

my lfs stocks them... however that does you no good

google ftw

on ebay they sell titanium 500watt even 800watt with temp control look it up they are there

most definatly not looking to run only 1 heater, i know better by now.

but instead of 4 ot 5 2 and 3's, i want hopefully just 2 that can keep the water steady.

the only pond heaters ive seen were de-icers. they dident say anything about keeping the temp up around 78* guess i need to start looking again

Why are you running so much on one tank?

I've got 125 gallons running on 250 watts and it will heat the tank to whatever temp I want. And I got only 1200 heating over 600gallons in my big tank and that thing stays at 80 all the time.

You should be fine with two 300s. Unless your house is cold or you want it like 90.

been doing it this way since i started the 250, and the temp always fluctuates. my basement is at a fairly steady temp year round, and never changes much. so its not the ambient temp being too cold.

right now with 3-300w tronic heaters, the temp still fluctuates from 74-78, and i know the heaters are good, since alone they will keep my 75g tank at temp.
