large heater for 250g

If the air temperature is constant... and the water temperature fluctuates that much (4*F)... then I would highly question the quality of the heaters...

My Stealth 250 W keeps my 125 gal no lower than 80, no higher than 81 (per both digital and glass thermometers) whether the house is 75 in the summer or 66 at night in the winter...

But if your still not willing to trust two Stealth 250W heaters... I would suggest considering two 400W Hydor, as Hydor seems to be a fairly trustworth heater manufacturer (I've heard of people using them but have not heard of people complaining about them.)

And you are right... typical pond deicers do not heat the water... they vibrate and the motion prevents the water from icing over in the small area around the deicer. The water movement it creates also encourages a gaseous exchange.

im sort of questioning the quality too after this post. however, ive used Tronic heaters in the past without issue. and as i said, alone, either of the heaters will keep a smaller tank at temp:confused:

i just honestly dont want to spend money where i dont need to. so if people have experience heating large tanks with a certain brand, as you mentioned the hydors or stealths, maybe thats where i need to look. instead of $100+ for a large heater

those finnex heaters have horrible reviews from alot of the sw people. the only titanium heaters that seem to have consistent good reviews are catalina, look them up on ebay.

2 250w stealths should have no problems heating a 250g, and would deff hold up to pacu abuse. stealths are rated to keep a tank at up to 18f above room temp. theres nothing wrong at all with temp fluctuations either, think about in the wild how much the water fluctuates. 4f isnt bad, i have my temp controllers set to allow 2-3f fluctuations.

Like I had wrote before I have 1 stealth 250 heating 125 gal. and 3 400 watt hydors heating almost 700 gal (including sump volume) I know that JohnPTC has had trouble with the hydors but I have not. and if you want more watts for your buck the 400 hydor is only about 4 bucks more then that 250 stealth depending on where you buy from. I think I found the best deals after shipping from big als.

But check big al's, Dr. foster and smith, and Aquarium guys. That's the three I allways price shop against another.

You could try an in-line heater(s). I have a Hydor 300 watt inline on the 180 and it keeps the tank at 80 no problem.

Of course, my tanks are all clustered in the fish room and kind of heat each other (basement room, no heat, yet 78 degrees year round because of all the tanks!)

well, even tho i know 4* fluctuations arent bad, maybe even closer to the wild where some days are sunnier than others, thus warming the water more. i however just dont feel comfortable with it happening it my tank uncontrolled, as im sure most people would.

ill look into 2 400w hydors, since im definatly always looking for the best bang for my buck, unless anone has any bad opinions on them :)
