I have seen a few actually in home aquaria and need a large tank bro I have seen some that got huge ... eventually you would need a good couple hundred gallon or possibly a pond ... make sure you have a good heavy lid also a friend told me that his liked to try jumping alot

I think you would want at least an 8'x2.5' tank for a largemouth setup. A tank that size should be able to house 2-4, depending on how big they end up getting.

There are two varieties of largemouth bass, northern and Florida strain. Northerns probably won't get much over 24" (that would be huge) and Floridas might get a few inches longer. Although in the wild Floridas have been known to reach about 25lbs, even one of this size would probably be less than 28"-30". In an aquarium, I wouldn't expect a bass to get over about 20-22" and MAYBE 10lbs.

They will eat a wide variety of live foods, the list basically contains anything that will fit in their mouths (and that can be a suprisingly big object!). They can and should be trained onto a decent pellet food, supplemented by some meaty live and frozen foods such as fish, crayfish, insects, etc.

Room temperature should be fine for either species (65-75*F should be fine). For decor, I would suggest sand, driftwood, rocks, and some live plants. Lily pads would be awesome!

Possible tankmates include smallmouth bass, sunfish, and catfish (channel or bullheads).

hey gibson, i had a baby lmb about 5 inches. i kept at room temp with no heater and he did fine. i didnt use heavy decor because when he was chasing feeders the plants and gravel would be everywhere. i only fed him feeders because he was wild. it does get VERY expensive. i would keep one in more less tha a 60 gal.
i am an addicted fisherman and i caught mine eafter the spwn which should be coming up. try redworms and small 1 inch minoow immataions like gulp alive minnows in a jar. i used a size 16 moquito hook

lily pads sound so cool

the bigger the tank the better in a 350 they can get 23-24" and expensive to feed as well. you will need a 250+ smallmouth 200+.

Ive had two plus a bunch of other fish native to NJ. They do great!! Fas as tank size Ill say start with a 180 and and once they get to like 16"s get a 300 but 600 would do the ticket!!

GL and hope to see what u come up with!!

i had a lmb in a 125 for awhile. (northern) the only thing you really have to worry about is the ammonia it gives off, The agressiveness!, and the price. The fish is big! and it makes disgusting amounts of poo. Finding a tank mate for bass are hard mine hated everything! and the amount of money to pay for feeders wasnt to fun. overall hard to keep i would recommend 125+ tank. (125 when small)

they can grow 2 to 3 inchs a month i had one that was about 3 inchs in the mid summer by the beggining of winter it was about ten inches they never stop eating and can becom verry aggressive towards other fish.. also males tend to be alot smaller and slower growers than females. u probobly could get away with a male in a 150 long i wouldnt try any thing smaller.

they grow very fast to 6 inchs then slow down quite a bit I would say 150 gal. is min. for 1 adult northern lmb. I bought mine farm raised so they take pellets very well I go through maybe 1 bulk bag of game fish chow a year on 3 bass and a channel cat. But this summer i need to relocate them to a bigger home either my private pond or bass pro or another large local fishing store.
