I never use algae eaters because the ratio of waste vs. what actual algae they eat is very one sided. BN are okay, but if I got a pleco it would be somehting snazzy. Nothing beats elbow grease (pressure not really needed) and Magic Erasers (best thing for algae ever...will take coralline algae off of acrylic without a blem). Although BN are workhorses, I think a pleco would contribute to more algae through waste than it would clean.
Buy a box of original Mr. Clean Magic Erasers...they come out to less than a dollar a piece and are amazing. Cheaper than buying scrapers and much less effort. One of the best changes I made in fish keeping.

Are there any chemicals in the mr clean erasers that could harm the fish and could I use it on the inside of the tank?
