Get gold nugget big, they take YEARS to grow to a decent size.
Royals shouldn't have meat in their diet but once a month or they'll die of bloat after a few years, there for arn't the best plec for carnivorus tank mates. Same for the Titanic (but he'll deffinatly hold his ground.)
Gibby's are a great choice as they grow really fast if treated right.
So is an adonis (get 3 feet long.) Thies guys take no crap, and dish it out aswell once they're past being fry.
A titanic panaque is a great one also, but fairly expensive, and shouldn't get much meat like stated above..
Here's an adonis: http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=277

Common lip's don't get very big, around 10-11" max in captivity, might end up a tasty snack.
