I need a schooler that won't be devoured by my Ornate pimelodus(1' catfish, I WILL GET ONE!) and can go in a 55 gallon tank. I am also CONSIDERING getting a baby whale mormyrid.

So far here is my list:
Silver Dollars
Silver Distichodus
Bowfish
FAHAKA!!!! jk.

a 1foot long catfish going in a 4ft tank o__O ... i would say thats kinda ... ehhh.... not really big enough....

The cat is not really that big, look it up.
distochodus work in groups, but rarely shoal, not unlike scissortail rasboras.

you may find with silver dollars that when the are full sized they are going to be smashed up

a 55 is not enough swiming room when they are grown up and when the get spooked they are going to smash their noses into the glass. I have had this problem keeping SD's in tanks that were too small for them in the past

what I would do is look at some schooling barbs (like aurelius barbs or filamentosa barbs) that are nice looking and active, but only get 3 inches or so.

get a bigger tank if you are going to get a fish that can get up to a foot.. comeon now thats basic fishkeeping...

congo tetras stick together and do fine in a 55 (4")

if the tank is bigger, the silver dollars would be ideal...as for the others listed, I'd avoid for the tank
