In My Skin !!!
Does anyone keep their large SH speceis in a single specimin bare tank one (Giant, Cobra or Argus)? Wood / Plants necessary? I've heard that sometimes it might be better to not give them places to hide so, they will not be spooked at the sight of people. Does this make any sence.

Wow, thanks for all the friendly and intuitive advise. I’ll weigh all of the suggestions and give it a go. So, just fill the tank with bottle-caps… o.k then. Appreciate all the responses!!!

Hey ,

no need to be harsh. SOme people have differents things to to on x-mas time as looking into online boards.

IMHO keeping channa in bare everything tanks is a cfruelty to the fish and just a sign of stupidness of the keeper that does not want the fish behave like natural and just sees the fish as a decoration to his home , and not as an living animal with special needs.

From keeping and breeding channa over some years I learned:
The more hiding places the better
The more hiding places the more active is the fish
the more hiding places the less these are used by the fish caus it feels secure, when it can hide everytime it wants to. So there is no need for the fish to stay close to one hiding place.

The other thing is fish in bare tanks look loke fish ini aquaria of shops selling fish for food purposes. I think this looks ugly, and I dont wanna have such things in my home.

I wasnt being harsh... was just kidding around. Good point and great advise. I have some nice wood I'll put in the tank tonight and try my luck at some live plants.

if you don't want to put anything in, i at least advise you to put some kind of floating cover. IMO it is one of the biggest necessities for a channa tank to make them feel more secure

I already have a gravel and sand mix for substrate. I don't think I'll give him caves to hide in... he's almost 18" long. Floating cover however sounds like a good idea. What do you suggest I use?

yeah iv had a few SH and love the species, id deffo say that mine responded better to LOTS of decor maybe rather than 1 large bogwood a few would be better i had a huge piece and have cut it into 3 sections and it works much better now cuz fish can gather shelter from it down low and there is still swimming space above it i think maybe a fast growing plant up the corners aswel to see how finds abit of green wouldnt go amiss, get us some pictures as soon as you can pal
