Large Tank Filtration

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Is the tank going to be freshwater or salt and what do you guys have in mind for stock?

Here's a one year update. We're still building. Fishroom is still nearly a dream away. The Ultimas have been sitting in my exercise room for nearly one year now. Our living room and entry way have turned into a storage unit with filtration equipment.

Hammerhead, 2 Baracuda Golds, Tarpon pump, 3 1000W heaters, filter socks (other new Hammerhead is in the current equipment room)

Two 120W UV sterilizers

Clarity CL-3 is sitting in the new garage area

I found some 1.5" black PVC pipe

Here's what we've got done so far:
Two 3" floor drains

Floor sealed and painted. It's going to be a tight squeeze in the filtration room.

We also cleared out a spot for a slab

Old kerosene tank

New propane tank

Needed propane for the new on demand water heater

Propane is also needed for the 20K generator to keep things running during power outages. Wiring partially done to the transfer station for the generator

Hot and cold water lines directly above the tank

Hot/cold water lines to be plumbed to the sump

Water lines plumbed for the utility sink (which is also sitting in the house)

Our build is progressing so slowly, that the 330 gallon tank I wanted to use for my sump is no longer available, so got a 405 gallon sump tank instead.

Tank finally came home three days ago. It has two 4' external overflow boxes

Unfortunately, setting up the filtration is a long ways off. With the stand and tank finally in, the outside wall/windows can be completed. With all the rain here, gutters are next, then completng the electrical wiring, walls, ceilings, flooring...then we get to the tank.

I'll try to update this thread at least once a year.

Hey Miguel, I might be old, but I haven't thrown in the towel yet! Sure, I turn 62 in a few days, but I don't plan on giving up wake surfing. I might consider a new wake surf board, but no rockers or walkers yet! I might be old, uncoordinated and decrepit, and it took longer for me to learn to surf than the youngsters, but I'm not about to quit :)

This month is the 5-year anniversary of my breast cancer diagnosis. I've learned that life should be celebrated every day. We need to "seize the moment" and be thankful for every day that we are given.

Yeah! I'm a 5-yr cancer survivor! Gotta go and get on my treadmill. I'm signed up for the Great Aloha Run next month....

Purchased a Clarity CL-3 which the vendor is holding for me until we need it.

It's going to be running off a 330 gallon sump fed by two external overflow boxes. The overflow boxes are 48"L x 6"W x 18" deep. One of the Ultimas will also be plumbed into the sump. There are 12 holes drilled into the top of the tank for 1.5" pipe. Main mechanical filtration will be 4 large spa filters run by two ReeFlo Hammerhead pumps. Because the fishroom has yet to be built (DIY), there will be plumbing--drains, water, and electrical outlets where they are needed. We're one engineering report away from getting our building permit. The filtration room is triangular-shaped and will be full. We think we can get the old 300 gallon tank in there, too....don't know what we'll do with it, but we can probably find some use for it.

The clarity ......don't waste your money .......they do not work on softer water.
