Here's my Purple Room which will someday be filtration central
purple.jpg

It's going to be a really tight squeeze. The sump tank is sitting where the main tank will be. There's not going to be a lot of room in my triangular shaped equipment room. Sound board on all walls adjoining living areas, covered with moisture resistant drywall. Tank and stand are now covered with shrink wrap. The plan now is to finish putting up the drywall in all areas except my fishroom, mud and texturize and paint everything, get the garage doors and inside doors installed, THEN move the stand and tank into position. At that point, we have to knock out a house wall so that the fishroom extends into the house. The entrance to the little equipment room for the 300 gallon tank (which we accessed through the old garage, will be walled off. From inside the house, we will punch an opening into filter room, so we can continue to do water changes on the 300 gallon tank. Setting up the new tank will be the last thing that gets done. We just got a letter from the Assessors Office. They want to come out and inspect the build so they can raise our property tax...sheesh...it's not even inhabitable yet.

Wow this has takin awhile great "threads" just read threw them. I thought this would of been done by now. Its gonna look awsome when it done.

Just tell the Assessors Office u decided to just cancle the build and ripped it off. Haha then no raise in taxes. Problem solved. LOL

We're finally about to start the plumbing. The tank/overflow boxes have 31 holes that need bulkheads. Each overflow box has ten holes.

The tank came drilled for eight 1/2" returns from the sump.

In addition, I had eleven holes drilled in the top of the tank for my mechanical filtration. There will be three 1 1/2" venturi returns.

There will be an additional eight uptakes, including six "poop suckers" just off the floor. We built a platform to access the top of the tank. The floor of the platform is composed of three doors that open up so we can get to the filtration underneath. The middle railing (to keep me from falling off) is removable to make it easier to get underneath the platform.

In addition to the Ultima II 4000s, we will be running six Pentair Rainbow RTL-100s.

The UV sterilizers are too tall to fit under the platform, so we haven't figured out the placement of the filters yet. The UV sterilizers will be plumbed to the Ultimas. If we don't put the Ultimas under the platform, we can run drain lines to the floor drains. Will be using four or five 5 gallon 100 micron filter socks in the holding sump, and also decided to throw in some pond matrix in the sump. So the plumbing begins!

Great build!!!

Have you considered a DE pool filter for mechanical filtration? I love mine and would highly recommend it. My water is always crystal clear. I haven't changed the DE media in the 9 months I have owned it. About once a month I will turn off my pump, pump the handle on the top of the filter up and down to dislodge the DE, then turn the pump back on which completely restores the flow. I will usually get a very small ploom of white cloudy water which clears up in about 5 minutes. Some day when I have to actually change the DE media I am going to attempt to do so without opening the filter up.

Did I mention the amazing water clarity? I paid ~$200 delivered from Amazon for mine. The water clarity is truly amazing!

Good luck on your build!

Yes it does purge like your Ultimas, although I haven't tried the purge yet. I have had it for 9 months on my little 110g tank and have been very surprised at the lack of maintenance required... much less work than the Ocean Clear, Big blue and Magnum 350 cartridge filters I have used in the past... and much clearer water too!

The EC40 I have has 25 square feet of filter area, they also make a EC75 with 40 square feet of surface area which might be more suitable for your size tank. But considering the amount of water these are meant to filter the EC40 might easily handle a tank your size.

From reading through your build I thought you might find it interesting. :-) I look forwards to watching your build progress!

We're in hour seven of a power outage. Was more than annoyed that the generator did not come on like it was supposed to. Turns out the battery was dead. Recharging right now. Have to run extension cords from the new equipment room to the current fishtank as the old part if the house is not connected yet to the generator.
