large tanks on wooden floors...... PART 2

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i already am going to do this, my room is above the chimney which would be 2.5ft of the tank beneath it so what i am going to do is put the tank so its 2.5ft on concrete and 3.5ft on joists. it will also be perpendicular to the joists and up against a wall.

you may find some answers in a thread I did on this last year

I think personally if the tank is leveled properly and it isn't over 210 gallons no one should have anything to worry about. If your that worried about it, get about 5 people to stand as close together as possible and jump up and down and if it collapses...lol I guess you couldn't put the tank there, but I'm sure it would be fine just check what you have underneath where you plan to put the tank, a joist or a support next to a wall would be best to not worry, but I dont think you should have to worry.

 You would have to have five people over 500 pounds each to weigh what my 180g setup weighs:screwy:

He is going to use a 135 if you read through the entire post, and of course it would take 5 500 pound people to equal the amount of rock, driftwood, substrate, and water you have in your 185.

Lots of dangerous advice here..... Anecdotal advice is a little risky. You need to have a structural engineer run the numbers for you. If something happens, there's no guarantee your insurance will cover the damage...... and the damage could be catastrophic!

In MOST cases, you shouldn't have a problem, but a few bucks for an engineer to run the numbers is well worth it.

 whatever you say, he didn't mention the 135g until after your erroneous post. Very bad advise you gave:screwy:

so you think the 135 would be ok??? i am going to ask a stuctural engineer first tho.
