Large Tiger Oscar help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
south gave you some good advice. its very hard to introduce two full grown oscars to eachother and not expect a beat down. if its male/male they may just fight til one dies. like south said, if its 2 females they stand a better chance.. i would try to rearrange that tank completely.. add some flowerpots (take a screwdriver and hammer and smash the backs out so they are like tunnels) add some big fake plants and break up the line of sight.

if they continue to fight you need to get rid of one, and pick something that is compatible with a full grown oscar. ive never had a jag, so i cant tell you anthing about their level of aggression. what about a large pleco, or a school of large silver dollars? something quicker than the oscar lol..

1 ok along with my first suggestion i have some more. Get another tank.lol
2 get rid of one and get a new tankmate
3 try this for a bit longer

My guess is that the big one is a male.

That leaves either a smaller male or a smaller female.

Normally Oscars pair up with a single female and the relationship is usually a good peaceful one. Even though a male will leave a female for another female and this is almost certain to anger her a lot.:irked:

Now while it is possible that the smaller fish is a female, I am guessing it is a male. This means you should return one of them and try again.

Sub-story:

I once had what turned out to be a male tiger and a two females; a tiger and a red.

The male originally paired with the tiger female, spawned a few times and for whatever reason, decided he like my red better. And, as stated above, the female tiger didn't take kindly to it and she would take her anger out on anyone foolish enough to get near her, including humans. My tank still has some scratches from where she banged the glass. She also weakened a glass tank I had and caused it to leak 70 gallons of water all over my kitchen.
