Just picked up a dozen LMB's. They range in size from 2-5 inches. What do they eat? I asked the guy at the hatchery and he told me to feed them "pellets". What I'm not sure about it exactly what pellets.

So far I tried all of the below and they haven't even tried eating yet:

Cichlid Pellets
Frozen Brine Shrimp
Frozen Blood Worms
Flakes (I knew this wouldn't work)
Dried Shrimp
Dried Minnows
Live Mosquito Fish
Guppy

and nothing... =(

PLEASE HELP! Maybe they're not hungry? Maybe they'll only eat every couple of days? I don't know, but I'm not willing to find out I did something wrong if they end up belly up.

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

who's the idiot hatchery person?? LMB don't eat pellets very often. They usually starve to death than to eat that stuff

I'm surprised they didn't eat the live mosquito fish and guppy. Describe your tank setup.

give them about a day or so with the lights off to get used to the tank, then return to your normal photo period, they will take mosqutio fish in a few days. try frozen bloodworms, i was never able to get the ones i kept a over 10 years ago to eat floating pellets but i have heard it can be done.

Ok....starve them! Give them 2-3 days without even touching the tank, lights off, no food, no water change, no little kids pounding on the glass, no pictures. Then throw in about a hundred guppies and they will be gone in no time. Once one hits they will all hit. And you can easily get them on pellets. It isn't hard at all once they get comfy and eating really good. If I can get my pickerel onto shrimp you can get a LMB onto pellets.

:IAGREE: cpuwiz, how big is your tank? They are going to me ]V[onster in no time at all.

Yeah man, when I first put my LMB and my SMB in the tank I just put a dozen or so feeders in there. They didn't even touch them during the day and when I woke up the next day all but 1 feeder was gone. Sense then, they know the hand that feeds!!!!! :naughty:

that'd be me!!!

I would imagine the "idiot" hatchery guy was feeding them pellets before you bought them.

I hope you don't think the hatcheries buy/produce thousands of pounds of live feeds for the wee fishes.

Try pellets before you get your new fish hooked on expensive and potentially dangerous live feeds.
