Largemouth help...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, I know that. I figure he might as well be prepared for the possability that his fish could get that large. If he has more space than needed he can always add tankmates. The reason throphy sized fish aren't common in the wild is because people keep them before they reach that size, a fish that can reach that size without being being caught is a lucky fish. In aquaria fish often live longer than they would in the wild and grow larger, add that to the year-round warmer water and you could have a very large basss.

A very good point------

An example is my bullhead. The pond he was collected from has a population of bullheads that seem to max out around 8 inches-lots of competion for food limits their growth along with angler harvest of the larger specimens. my bullhead has now exceed 11inches in just over a year (started with him at 3/4 inch)
My point is that at times wild aquarium fish may actually have faster/larger growth rates.

What is the lifespan of LM Bass? Do they differ by their Northern/Southern distinctions? Forgive me if this was already asked/pointed out during the thread, but this person is putting a lot of effort into this project, and my hopes are that he/she has great success with it.

yeah I hope I do too.. I will have success anyway...I have a 2000g pond in my basement if I need to put him there..but im really hoping I dont have to do that...I would rather have him upstairs with me where I can see him everyday...lets hope the 300g tank works....I hope he lives at least 20 plus years if not more...I think they live for a very long time if taken care of properly...at least thats what I like to think ;)

I am raising Tiger Muskies myself, and I do know that their lifespans are 30 years if the conditions are right (water temp mostly - must be cold).

why don't you get a solar panel a deep cycle battery(so the abilty to recharge even as a dead battery.) I believe yes that if what you talking a bout is a Large Mouth Bass from the wild max size of it is 20-23pds 3ft long like peakock bass. But i think you should do it, go ahead and start it on your pond. if you change all your light bulbs to floesents 13watt light blub (it puts out light much as a 60watt blub.) that shoud cut your bill almost in half. (hey works for me.:grinyes: ) hopefull we get to see that fish bigger in the future but i think he'll get only 8-10pds Max of 27inches in a home tank.

Well I have a 2000g pond in my basement but I drained it and left it there. It was too much work for me and my electric bill was outrageous. I just dont see keeping my bass in the pond by himself where I cant really see him and enjoy his interaction with me. Thats why I want to get him a tank made. Right now he's in my bedroom right by my bed and he watches me all night. I cant put him in that pond. I will fix a tank in my room no problem, just the size of the tank is what I got to work on.

it's hard to believe that your fish eats Pellets because bass are carnivorous -eating fish! My friend said he threw a hot dog on a hook and caught a large mouth bass about 7-8inches.(i didn't wanted to believe him now i know i guess it's true

I know I've talked about this before, but there are two strains of lm bass, the florida (southern) strain, and the northern strain. The floraida strain is the monster one, w/ the largest ever recorded being a 25 pounder that was snagged a few months ago. Most northern strain LMs dont get passed 10lbs, and in an aquarium I wouldnt expect one to grow past 5lbs, but it is possible that it will grow larger!

Trust me..my largemouth eats pellets...I wouldnt believe it either..but its true...he does..hikari gold is his favorite....I have had him awhile and after throwing in different things to eat..he likes it...

My lm eats hikari gold too, and it loves it. Im trying to get my sm bass on it too, but right now the closest thing it will take is dried krill.

I'd say something near two hundred gallons but that is just an estimate
