My fish room
I can't seem to find the answer to my question.

What is the largest species of Bicher?

I want to get several for my 8X3X2 tank.

p. bichir bichir, and p. endlicheri congicus are the biggest as far as i know

Also P. Ansorgii. Large sized P. Ansorgii,P. Bichir Bichir, P. Endlicheri Congicus (20"+) would range from couple hundreds to a bit more than a thousand USD.

Yup Hao is correct.
Biggest is still disputed between Ansorgii, Congicus and PBB.
And like Hao also said, getting large sized of any of them is going to get pricey.

Also unless you get XXL size, they are not likely to get to full potential in a home tank.

Cool. Thanks for the info. I will likely get small ones and start them out in a smaller tank. I have heard that they grow slowly but I like to raise them myself.

Chances of a smaller specimen growing pass 20-25" is very slim in captivity even if it's a wild caught. It may not even pass 20" especially when starting in a small tank but have no clue what size of a small tank you're planning. As far as I know only congicus will have a potential to grow to 20" or bigger even if started small size. I never seen an ansorgii pass 20" when started in small size in captivity. As others already said best to get them at larger size but you will be spending more. You will also need look hard for them as larger specimen don't come by often.

OK. I may have to start looking for larger ones. I am in no hurry so I'll find the right ones eventually.

I guess it's the biggest after all of these posts but u should definitely include the mighty Ornate Bichir! Gets to a monster 24 inches max (pretty rare). Saw once in a lps once it almost freaked the $#!+ out of me! it looked like a friggin fat serpent!

Have you seen the 27" Ansorgii toyin has in stock according to the thread hao started recently called toyins stock update or something like that, its a monster!
