I was looking into getting a couple of Cichlids. I would prefer to have more than one fish in the tank, so I don't know if this is feasible.

Cichlids could work if you stick with some of the smaller ones like firemouths, convicts, jewels...maybe a JD or Nic.

you could do more africans... but IMO new world cichlids are so much better

You could have the following...

-1 Salvini
-3 Fire mouths
-Pair of Honduran Red Points
-Pair of Rainbow Cichlids
-1 Sajica
-A Raphael cat to raid the spawns and keep the fry down.

You probably could get away with a couple bala sharks IDK I just started researching for fish i could stock my 50 gallon with.

Balas would prefer a larger shoal and would be pretty skiddish.

This is more fish than I would have expected to be able to put in the tank. I really like this idea, it is a good variety. Can all of these fish be found at the LFS?

The salvini, fire mouths, and raphael cat could probably be found at your lfs. The rest you would have see if they could special order, buy from a vender like rapps, or from your local aquaria association.
