largest largemouth bass

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The biggest bass I have ever kept in a tank was a 12" lm. Now I have 6" lm and sm. The biggest one I have ever kept to eat was 18", and after that I dont keep any bass that big, only once in awhile I'll keep one just over the 15" size limit. They arent my favorite fish to eat, but cooked the riht way, they can get you over a craving for fish!

To answer the original question posed by this thread, the largest bass I have kept was a 22" Striper hybrid for all of a day while my friend was moving.

I've had several , the largest was around 7pounds when I released her back to the wild outdoors. I caught it when it wieghed 4lbs.10ozs. It took 2 years to grow that much. It would eat anything from dry dog food to live rats&bullfrogs. A Largemouth in the south will grow from 1 to2 pds. per year ,depending on forage type & quantity available. So in the south that 6lb. fish that was mentioned was probably 4-6 or more years old. A northern strain 6lb. largemouth from say New York could be 8-10 or more years old. This is only because of the shorter growing season. I fish in bass tournaments all the time. A 5 fish limit of 6 pounders would win the money in just about every tournament anywhere. Not very many lakes in the whole country could produce creels like that. Bass are pretty good to eat , although I personally practice catch&release. I think my favorite fish to eat has to be crappie.

Just to help the cause here is my 2 bass, not the biggest yet but someday. they are about 5 6 inchs.

I don't usually eat fish, until I started fishing for walleye, pretty good eats.

lets keep it on topic (thanks to those that have)
Oscarboyz, let me know if you want to have this thread cleaned up

I cleaned it up per request.
Lets keep it on topic, and if you want to make a "what fish tastes best" thread feel free to do so.

However unbelievable this may sound, I once caught a 24 inch Largemouth, it was far to big to keep so we ate him.

I agree, but everyone has their own opinion on eating fish. But I almost never see people keep bass, only some people keeping them illegally (undersize, too many, etc) I hate to see it, but I would love to get them in trouble!

Lets try to keep on topic:) I dont want to clean it up again lol.
