I'm curious what is the largest anyone has grown one.

Here is the second largest I caught out of the river yesterday. Looked everywhere this morning but couldn't find the monster. It measures 2.5 inches.

That's huge one I ever seen! And looks different from the MTS I have here....

When I look them up their other common name is red rimmed malania, which I've heard is the other common name for them. Wikipedia puts that max size just a tad over 3 inches which matches some of big ones I've seen once or twice.

I've seen larger ones here in the Philippines, I could tell that they're over 3 inches, it's just that they're on market... food market.
Yeah a tip, they can populate very very very fast, they can't be controlled once they're fully feel at home in your aquarium, most are under your substrate, plants, or back of a filter. Careful there.

How do y'all cook them? I've read that they carry parasites that can potentially infect people.

I got them because the little ones I have aren't reproducing fast enough to keep up with my 3 assassin snails...and because they were huge. They'll die off in Feb. when the water gets cold. Personally, I think they are cool to watch, especially when the come out at feeding time.

I have them in my bichir tank as my clean up crew, with 2 oscars and a jd so they can't reproduce, the O's and JD always see them as their past time: Punching bags or should I say mouth tackling bags... Well we cook them up with some chili on coconut milk, lots of different styles but that's the popular one. I'd say they are delicious!! You gotta suck em up then chew and savor the watery goodness of the coconut milk with a twist of some spices like chili and chili leaves for bitter-spicey-yummy-chewy goodness. They're popular for 'pulutan' or finger foods as you drink your beer. I don't know why but our stomachs can handle some of the quirky things you could eat.

Well you may go for nerites snails they're fast enough to reproduce for your assassins, MTS are cultured in rivers you see, that's where they got their ice cream cone like shape, to venture on water currents, If you got low flow in your tank they won't thrive well.

That sounds really good. Might have to try it.

Surprisingly, the assassins aren't going after the nerite. They prefer the pond snails but I can't catch wild ones due to fish parasites. Next on their list is a native snail but I don't always have time to collect them. That leaves me with the malania that they are starting to go after. They just wont catch them until they are a certain size...then the game is on.

I wish my MTS can reproduce....but my sunfish wiped them out. I don't think I ever seen one according to 2" when I still has them.
