i have 2, 1 inch umbees and 2 1 inch dovii's with more juvies of both on the way...cant wait till i can say these are 12+ inches 
so you take a full sized bredding pair of the toughest cichlids of choice: umbis, RD, Buttekofferi, dovii what ever put them in a 10 foot tank with a divider. On the other side you put a 30" crytal eyed catfish. You let them all get comfy and pull the divider. Would the 2 vs. one tandem thing save the pair or would it be the catfish all the way?

I had a couple of Cichla Mono's that were about 13" a piece when I traded them in at a lfs. I got them when they were 2", 2.5 years ago.

my biggest fish kept had to be a mono peacock bass i bred a pair and have had the one that i have now for 5 years it is a whopping 24" in a 400 gallon tank i do not have a digital camra dont beg for pics!
