largest water change?

Another thing that can cloud your water is teeny tiny debris that are floating around... if you don't have a good filter media to catch all that is floating around then your water can seem cloudy. Make sure you have a good micro filter pad in your filtration unit to catch all the tiny particles.

i have done a 90% change acouple of time before , when i have moved the tanks round the house .

But i wouldn't do more than i 45/ 50% max change on a normal day of water changes .

I always change btw 60%-80% weekly

40%-50% weekly. Over stocked and over filtered with clear water always.
Stuff your sump full of CR’s up to where you normaly have your water level (looks like no room for water) then give it a few weeks for the BB to grow. I think you will be happy with the results. ;)

CR's ?

I as have a 180 with this same problem. I am not over stocked only 8 fish so far all under 4". Sand bottom as well. not alot of digging. For filitration a Mag. 350 Canaster & AC 110 HOB. Just ordered a Rena XP3 hoping that it may just be under filtered. I have been doing WC's 20% every 2 days and a 50-60% every 7th day. And it continues to come back. I am at a loss as well

i think i found a source of more bioballs, so i will try that and see if that'll help

also, since i dont know what CR's are yet ... could i put other things in the sump, like lace rock or something with lots of surface area ?? would that help add bacteria?

my guess is that i am just underfiltered
