My big female hystrix Is likely going to die so thought I would throw this out there in hopes that someone has an idea.

Basically a few weeks (over a month) back I noticed she was not eating any more in the main tank (after being stressed out by the male). Pulled out the male but she did not get better. Still refused to eat so I switched places with her and the male (male went to the main tank and she went to quarantine. I waited for a bit and still refused to eat anything. She was grey and also noticed she was only breathing from one gill. I then tried treating with praziquantel and salt for a few rounds which seemed to do nothing.

About 2 weeks back now I went down to the tank, threw in a worm and she ate it out of no where. (would not eat another) From then on she has really not done anything but go down hill. Still sits in the corner, breathes out of one gill and has a mold/fungus/slimecoat that has basically covered her body.

The whole system has a constant drip 5gph and the water is really pristine and what she has always lived in.

Anyway likely a lost cause but figured I would throw it out there to see if there was anyone with any suggestions.

Do you feed her other foods besides worms? Vitamin deficiency? Other than that, I don't know man. Sorry to hear.

I’ve had my guys quit eating for several weeks on numerous occasions. Tendency is to freak out and start changing a bunch of things and throwing treatments in the tank. All that does is stress them out.

From what I can tell in the pics, she doesn’t look overly skinny to the point of dying from starvation. I’d keep the lights out and increase the time between feeding attempts. Make sure to take the food out if she doesn’t eat it.

Is this a high traffic area in your house? If so you might try covering the tank with a dark sheet just to cut down on stress.

Stay consistent, and don’t give up hope.

She is in the back room behind the in wall tank. The only traffic is me. You are right about the tendency to freak out about it so will take your advice on less frequent feeding . Cheers!

Even w other foods, could still be deficiency. Best of luck. Hope she pulls through.

This sounds kind of familiar. Did you post about this before? What treatments did you try?

Consider Costia?

Were you using a drip for water changes?

Read the thread please

Treatments were mentioned, and one of those would have dealt with Costia. (PraziPro)
When treating for flukes did you stop water change for 4 days?
I did yes Jim
