Hi,
Looks like I might be getting a couple of these guys soon. I didn't get a chance to read the article about them in Top of the Food Chain.
Could someone give me some pointers like max size, if they do need salt etc.

They get big, very big. But I've yet to see one in a home aquarium that's over 2ft long, but you can bet they'll easily get twice that big eventually.

Young fish don't need any marine salt, but as the fish matures, it'll turn from brackish to full marine.

That's about it. They don't need any more special care, just take care of it as you would with any other fish.

Thanks, I will try them in freshwater to start.
They will eventually be moved to a 8' x 3' x 2 tall, should be big enough.

You don't need to bother with the transition from fresh to marine if you don't want to.

These fish can live just as good in freshwater it's whole life.

The only difference is, a saltwater adult will display a different sheen to its body and lighter fins, while those that live in freshwater will have darker fins.

I think if I remember correctly, a saltwater barramundi will have a bluish sheen while the freshwater ones are silverish.
