Happaned to me when I caught a rainbow trout on a x-rap..
I was all excited like it's my first fish, and instead of using the net I grabbed the line, the fish jumped in the air..
and pow..the front hook on the x-rap, right inside of my palm..the other guys said they can see the end of the hook wiggling from the otherside..

yeah, I love/hate barbless hooks..
The funny thing is the hook inside you is almost painless(unless the trout wiggles around, which my teacher took off after a minute.) and everybody tried to yank it out but nothing worked.. Also it hurts when you watch someone take the hook out of you..it doesn't when you look at the lake
After around 40min. I started getting a headache and hearing things..(later I learned that I was going in shock) and right after that I was like, **** it..and pulled it with barehands.. Came off, I felt MUCH better. If I waited 30 more seconds, I would of gone completely into shock and would have been to the hospital.

How did they pull yours out? Just literally pull it out after getting anesthetics? I was thinking they were going to cut my hand open or something..

and where were the Pacus at? We saw a big school in clear lake too, in the middle of the lakes surface

This is one hook up I wished I was using an X-rap. Their hooks are flimsy and PBs bigger than 17 inch can actually straighten them when they shake their heads, They can also be bended easily with pliers. I think I lost two Glass Shad Rap to this same fish over the course of the last week. I came back this morning to the same spot where I lost the raps and it was there again waiting for me. I hooked it first with a MirroLure twitchbait but managed to shake that off too. I switched to the lure that ended up in my hand when the fish lost interest in the Mirrolure. It actually managed to shake this lure too but only after I landed it, took a picture of it, and was reaching down to hold it for hook extraction.

The hooks on this lure was very solid. The Doc and the two nurses assisting couldn't even make a dent on the hook with the wire cutter. They pulled in a stocky guy, a technician they say, from the hall way, who had to use both hands to press the wire cutter. The hook never bent, it just broke off from the force.

The Pacus are in the same lake where I catch the PBs.

I actually tried to use a pair of surgical scissors which was advertised on TV as capable of cutting through a nickel coin and it didn't even scratch the surface of the hook.

DAYUM! Those pacus are HUGE!!!!!!!!!!! I wish we saw them the last trip.

There's always next year.;)

Will grow them some more for you guys. lol

so the same thing happened to you that happened to me..
right when i'm trying to get the hook outta the fish's mouth..he makes a comeback..

yeah, i don't know if it was the fish's fight or because it was hanging off of me but, the hook on the x-rap was bent real good..almost at a 90degree angle.lol

my friend told me if it's a big hook...it might hurt a little but to make the hook point puncture more into the skin, and make the barb come out of the other side of your hand, and then just cut the tip(if you have something strong) and the hook is off of you hands..

I had to go get one of those tetnis shots after..

hey maybe we can ask customer service of the lure companies "what kind of equiptment will break your hooks?"

also, have you ever tried catching the pacus in the picture?

Not yet, you need a lot of patience for the Pacus. They are not predators and eat veggies. It's a cast a baited rig and wait and hope for a hit type of thing. I'm getting too much action from the Peas to even bother with the Pacus.
