we're still trying to iron out the details and cost. This trip also requires taking a small charter plane for 1.5 hour to get into the interior. And the local fuel cost is about $10.00 per gallon, while we use the aluminum crafts to go up and down the river. From the airstrip base camp to the prime collecting base 2 is about 2.5 hr ride on the aluminum boat up river, and to get to some even rarer fish, its another 2 hours up river to camp 3.
During the trip, we will have a full staff that will help prepare 2-3 meals a day for us, guide service from the locals, about 2 guides per boat. Its hard to navigate these rivers, and all the ponds are hidden behind thick forests. One part we have to drag the boat across land to get to the small lake.
Flight from Los Angeles to Georgetown, Guyana is about 1000 dollars, about $800 from Miami, which is not included in the trip. The trip cost will cover the food, staff, lodge, charter plane, and charter boats and fuel.
The dry season is every Jan-April, which makes fish collecting easier, but at the same time, some fish are not available.
In June-August its high water, which makes fish scatter, but the rivers will be easier to navigate, and also many juvenile fish will be available in the flooded forests, which would be ideal for aquarium specimens.
Many of the fish will spawn in May and reach 4-6" by September, which the river level will drop again for 2 months, until November and it will start to rain again.
