Several of the employees at my Petsmart are actually pretty knowledgeable about fish. Their stock is always far more healthy than the fish at my lfs, sad enough, also with more variety. I guess it just varies from store to store. Though I can't say the same for the register peeps.

My wife just started working at petsmart and she makes 7 bucks an hour. Thats what they pay these kids , and we as fish geeks expect them to know about fish ... well in reality its just a job get up in the morning and go net fish and clean up after them . And personally when i buy a fish i point it out to them no matter if its petsmart or a mom and pop place . Glad you feel like you got over on "the man" but your doing nothing but driving the already high prices for everybody ... petsmarts not that bad :headbang2

First of all, I am no where near an expert in fish, I'm new at this and don't know near enough to teach someone. As a matter of fact, if you look at some of my other posts you'll see how newbie my questions are. So I'm not sure why you all assume it was my responsibly to teach this kid. he can't tell green from gold and he can't spell firemouth without using the letters "j-a-c-k d-e-m-p-s-e-y" and you act like I'm the villain? What about the school system and parents that failed him?

Don't just assume because someone posts on here that they are even slightly knowledgable about fish. I got my tank at a garage sale and I'm learning about fish online, I'm newer at this than the kid working at petsmart.

You let it occur to save some money when you could have helped the hobby by informing him for future reference.

Like I just said, I am newer at this than the kid at petsmart. When I learn enough to actually teach him something I'll be happy to. Unfortunately I was counting on him to know at least a little.

Ok we didn't give you the benefit of the doubt, but you knew enough to cheat the poor guy and and then come here and make a thread about "LAUGHING AT PETSMARTS STUPIDITY". That's not hororable bro. Next time you want to cheat Petsmart or anyone else out of their money, please keep it to yourself. peace, out.

Ehh this is a hit or miss thing. But its not just with fish stuff. I mean sometimes I go to one of my favorite fish stores and you can just tell the guy doesnt know a thing about fish. Then sometimes you can go to petsmart and find someone who does know things. It depends on where you go, and who you get to help you. Hit and miss. But same thing goes for buying a car. I went to dodge few years back was lookin at an srt4 (turbo front wheel drive car) When he popped the hood I said yea I love turbos. He didnt have a clue where I was looking in the car, didnt even seem like he knew it was a turbo. I say hit or miss.

If it were me getting a cheaper fish, knowing myself, Id probably say something just because I totally believe in karma. I wouldnt give him the whole shake down on fish, but maybe throw out some basics "hey you know this is a blah blah blah..... the one I want has a blah blah blahh..." I used to work at petco a long time ago, worked in fish sometimes. I knew a bit about fish but didnt know much at the time. I hated when people would come in shouting out how much they knew at me and how I was making a mistake if I did.

Id just kinda mess with him a little in a funny way. Oh yea ill take the GREEN one.. hehe.. I probably would have corrected the fish though. But Id do it just not in a jackass way makin me seem like I knew everything. Dunoo!! its a interesting situation. Im not tryin to start fights or take sides, Im just sayin what I would probably do.

One might be shocked to see where some of those "rookie" Petsmart/Petco workers end up with a little time under their belts. ;)
