Lava Rock Set-Up - Thoughts?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I like it pretty cool!

I used to keep a big lava rock in a piranha tank however I remove it because lava Rock surface is rather abrasive so it might damage fish if for some reason they dart against and rub their bodies with lava rock surface...What is your experience about this and what is your opinion?.

Looks good man. Looks like a nightmare to clean tho. +1 on the shrimp. Cherry shrimp and snails would be reef-like

i plan to keep up on water changes and let the tank grow organically.

Lavarock is terrible for most fish yes. but not for a select few.

only problem I had was the stones degrading over time. after almost a decade in the tank they were crumbling and there was red grit all over the bottom. I went from bare bottom to sand without adding sand.
towards the end I had to be careful re-stacking them they were so brittle.

Looks good. Wish I had taken pictures when I did a lava rock background.
