Layering glass for bottom of aquarium

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think I would want a bigger piece than 18". I would feel way more comfortable doing it with a 4-5 foot piece.

Ok, now I understand. Technically, as long as you are well supported, it can be done for sure. Even then, the 18" piece wouldn't necessarily need to be used. But it wouldn't hurt.

I would save that glass for something else and layer some plywood then seal the pplywood in. There are several plywood tank builds that show how to do this. This way, when the plywood stresses, it doesn't crack or shatter. You can use all the same supports you would for the glass to not bend but me much more confident in your build.

Perfectly fine! I will be doing this my self! Again, many people are very frighten when it comes to glass aquariums and are unaware how strong glass and silicone truly are!

I guess that's me. lol. Seems like every time I work with glass, it's too fragile. I got two broken ones outside right now.
