LAZER the FLOWERHORN

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah venting is definitely the best way of sexing your FH. Without it ya might end up with a situation like mine. Thought that one of my 2 was male for the longest time just because of its kok size but nope turns out that he was a she all along, so her name became Big Bertha just due to her manly appearance. Lol here's a pic of her so ya can see how manly looking she is.

PS: how did you find out he was a SHE lol?

Lol got curious as to why it refused to breed with another female one day so I decided that I would take her out and vent her to figure out why my supposed male wasn't doing his job. Well I came to find out that he was in fact actually a she. Ofcourse her father also had a huge kok so guess it makes sense on why one of his daughters got it as well, granted she'll never have a kok as big as her father's (Jr.) tho. He's the FH in my profile pic.

omgyea i see alright lol Big Bertha fits her that for sure. Its funny, i havent heard many people using the name Big Bertha bc my dad messes around with my step mom and callls her that when they playing around arguing lol not that shes manly looking lol my dad is italian and hes a shorty haha and my step mom im not sure what she is ive never asked her i should tho but shes alot taller then my dad so yea u just brought back memories [but good memories]

As for Lazer im so nervous to vent bc ive never done it ... i noticed i have 2 male cichlids in the tank and my male Carlisle, the green terror hangs by himself, and i have Velvet i believe is some sort of manguanese ill have to post pic, but he is male and he is steadily hangingout by Lazer. Im so lost ill post pics ofthe tank this evening.
Hmm now that would be a neat lil breeding project if ya can get that Jag and FH to breed. Seen some jaghorns before and they always looked real neat imo. Kind of gets the body/color pattern of the Jag mixed with the pearls and kok of the FH. Generally tho jaghorns are going to have almost no kok to a very small one, they won't grow out huge looks like FH's do.

OMG i didnt even know they could breed. And thank you Magnus_Bane for always giving me such good advice or even ur own opinions help me get things right at times thanks again.

Will she eventually get any sparkles as s/he gets bigger do u know?

Ik with your FH it really reminds me of my original breeder female, Big Bertha's mom. Here's a pic to show what I mean. Also cuban FH's are actually very popular in the FH community. They get the nice black and white colors from the cuban but they keep the body and build of a FH. Just got to be careful when buying a Cuban FH tho, allot of ppl will try to scan ya by selling ya a black kamfa under the same name. Black kamfas may look similar to Cuban FH's but they don't get that nice solid black and white color, it's more of a black-dark grey and the white is more of a light grey-blue. I wonder tho what a Fader Cuban FH would look like tho. No clue what the base color of that hybrid would be so no clue how one would look with the fader gene. Wonder if the base color would be red like the FH or if it would be more of the white color from the Cuban genes.

Yeah FH's can breed lol it's just like with BP's that the males tend to be most often infertile. The females don't tend to have that problem as much. But yes these hybrids can still hybridize even more. I've seen them hybridized with jags, cubans, red devil's, midas, convicts, BP's, red terror and so much more fish that I'm probably forgetting lol. As long as yours is fertile there's no telling what combo ya could end up with.
