Laziest fish ever?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My African shovelnose only moves when my L29 tries stealing his space. He only eats when food lands right in front of his face

I had a betta that spent 90% of its time lying on the substrate. I have also had a few lazy raphel cats (stripped and spotted). If you are up late mine were cruising the tank. This makes sense because they are nocturnal.

he'll croak? Well thats awesome, ha! Ive never had one do that! Last time we dropped it real low he let go and hid under wood, then went right back to his little claimed area! Id love to hear/see that!

That's why they are also called talking catfish :) you can hear them make noise at night too, when they're busy squabbling with other fish.

Well my striped rapheal moves around in theshade but my irwini is very lazy. Won't budge at all so I have to litteraly drop food in front of it just so it'll eat.

Kinda of the reason I stopped keeping fancy plecos. Expensive plus they hide all the time. I enjoy my barb tank now the fastest tank I ever had. There is an albino bushy nose in there but she is there for algae removal which she does an excellant job of.

Well he doesn't hide, but my Common Wolf fish has got the be the laziest fish I've ever owned. He will only move when he's hungry. Otherwise, he is easily mistaken for a piece of driftwood or an oddly shaped rock.

Yep,talking catfish a lot of them make that croaking sound when they are taken out of the water.I don't think it is really accurate to label raphaels and other nocturnal fish lazy though. They just don't normally go about their business during the day.I have some pellet eating dats that sometimes won't move from a certain spot for days at a time. They won't even eat unless a pellet falls very close to their mouths, now that's what you call lazy.

Because I have massive tanks, a local shop called me and offered a massive Pacu for free. I came by to take a look and not only was he the size of a large watermelon, he required at least a 500 gallon tank just for himself. He was in a 90 gallon and barely had an inch to move around. They actually had a full grown oscar dumped in there with him and the oscar appeared to be beaten to an inch of his life.

I have had 2 Irwini starve to death. Of course they are close cousins to the Raphael, and disappeared upon putting them in an aquarium. I have a third one that has taken up residence behind a filter intake tube. I drop food down in his mouth but he won't eat it unless the light is out. This morning he had worked his way clear to the surface so I got him to eat from my fingers. This baby will live it wants to or not!

Krich, I like your new avatar. He is my favorite TV character!
