ok i know they are not monsters but we keep about a dozen bettas. Some of them are healthy and active, and about half of them do nothing at all (untill they see food) the ones that laze around all day are the fancy ones the crown tails and twin tails. they all eat the same thing, betta pellets brine shrimp and a little cyclop-eez. any one have any idea why some of these guys appear lazy? or any idea what i should do about it?

What temp is thier water? what size tanks are they in? what kind of filtration?

I know a lot of people keep bettas in bowls with no heat or filter and they dont move around much

Fancies tend not to be as active as plainer ones.

ive found some bettas very happy to sit on top of filters half out of the water and some less lethargic. they also seem to slow as they age and considering two years is a long time for a fish that really is only suppoossed to live for one year in the wild.

everybody has at least a gallon of water to swim in with little caves for them to hide and play in, and the temp is 74-76, all betta bowls are strategically placed close enough to heat vents to stay warm but not close enough to cause heat fluxuations. no filters but water changed twice a week.

they don't move, at all, untill they think they are going to be fed. they lay on the bottom and trick us into thinking they are dead. :swear: the little twin tail even lays on his side. if you approach thier bowls they will swim to the top looking for food, and if you don't have any for them they will float back to the bottom.only some of them do it and they all have the same setup, little cave with lots of holes to swim in and out of, little plastic plant, gravel, and a gallon of water.

My betta just lies on the bottom too. Only "wakes up" for feeding. It's weird. Maybe he's just trying to stay out of my zippy danios way.:)

Hi, I'm new here. I mostly keep bettas, but I'm working on plans for a big tank as a project between me and my fiance. In all the time I've kept bettas, I've never heard of the "fancy" ones being lazier in general than the "plainer" ones. I currently have 2 veiltails and 2 crowntails, and as it is, my crowntails are both more active than the veils. Some *are* definitely lazier, but I'd be worried with that kind of behavior. How long have you had them? Do you check the water params to make sure that the ammonia isn't building up too quickly prior to changes? A little more info on the boys (or girls?) would be helpful.

Well she takes care of some of them for me cause i work all the time. But i go over to see them quite often. I've had my twin about 3 and a half months and he's no bigger then a cigarette but. So he's still a baby and i got the crown about a month later. He usually only eats one pellet and then isn't interested anymore??? It's got me confused.
