lazy bettas?

Have you checked the Ph? Not to mention it could just be you have crappy betta stock lol. There are ones you can buy real young that are trained to flare when someone walks up to the tank, but as I have mentioned before you pay more, alot more for betta bettas. Like....30-200 dollars -__- so it just depends on how much of a betta freak you are, if you are a total nut like me!!! 0.o

Hi, I'm new here. I mostly keep bettas, but I'm working on plans for a big tank as a project between me and my fiance. In all the time I've kept bettas, I've never heard of the "fancy" ones being lazier in general than the "plainer" ones. I currently have 2 veiltails and 2 crowntails, and as it is, my crowntails are both more active than the veils. Some *are* definitely lazier, but I'd be worried with that kind of behavior. How long have you had them? Do you check the water params to make sure that the ammonia isn't building up too quickly prior to changes? A little more info on the boys (or girls?) would be helpful.

I have only kept a few bettas but out of the ones I had the ones that were wild forms (given to me) were a lot more active then the ones with long fins. I don't know much about bettas but it was not just a sexual difference as a pair of the wild ones bred. They looked like this. (not mine).
I am sure that you have more experience and knowledge about their behavior and problems than I do.
